deck paint home depot deckover home money depot wood summer stain
This is the worst product I have ever bought! Followed directions exactly and spent 3 days prepping. Locked great. The following summer it was filthy! Cracking! And pealing all over deck and yard! I spent a lot of money and now have to sit on a horrible looking deck! I...

Behr - Paint Review from Cheney, Washington

2.3
Details
We used the deck paint early last summer on our wrap around deck. The wood was seasoned but had never been previously treated. We prepped with behr products as directed. Applied three coats of deck paint allowing drying time in between. One year later the entire deck is peeling in one place or another. We spent many weekends prepping and painting. I am so angry about this. Now not only do we need to do it and pay for everything again but also have to get the behr *** off the deck to apply something else.

Three coats! Wow you really sealed the moisture into that wood didn't you?

I'm curious as to why people think "sealing" a treated wood from moisture is a good idea.

All you are doing with that type of product is keeping the water in the wood. I bet you have wood fibers breaking up under where it peeled also.

Why anyone would buy any paint from a company (Behr) that is so incompetent as to sell such a product is beyond me.

Prepared my deck, painted with product as directed and after a week the deck is still sticky. This is a water based product. Tried to contact Behr and could not get their phone number to work and their customer service email site would not let me thru either. Feeling avoided by company.

Deckover paint is a huge disappointment | Behr review from Columbia, South Carolina

I am extremely disappointed and unhappy w/the Deckover product. On the advice of my painter, we used it for our porch. It is now 2 weeks later and I wish I had not agreed to this choice. I have two door mats on this porch. The dirt/sand sift through the mats and STAIN the Deckover. Scrubbing has not removed the stains! Pinestraw falls on the porch and leaves rust colored stains. Drippings from flower pots on the porch leave stains. I am unable to remove any of these marks. And, to top it off, I'm of the mind that I should not have to scrub a back porch to remove stains that should not be there in the first place. Question....please advise me what I can do to remove these stains. Or is there something we can coat the Deckover with that will prevent this from happening??

We are experiencing the same with mud. We have 3 kids and 2 dogs...so when they tracked mud up the stairs on Friday I didn't think much of mud...until we tried and we SCRUBBED the stairs...the mud is still there. Extremely disappointed to say the least

Deck over coming up | Behr review from Chicago, Illinois

I purchased 8 gallons of deck over 4x,I followed instructions and did three decks less than 1 year later the stuff is peeling off.I am very disappointed in this product, not to mention all the time and effort to do this job.when I first did it I was in impressed how it filled gaps and crevices. It look great.had I known it would peel off less than a year later I would have not spent the money or my time. This product is no good and I feel I should be compensated.I would not recommend this to anyone. Also did patio of concrete and same thing.

I had the same exact experience. Bher sent me new product but I am hesitant to go thru the trouble of doing it over.

Also, removing the peeling stuff is very time consuming. Class action suit anyone?

@Anonymous

I've had the same problem and talked to a lawyer after getting nowhere with Behr. They offered to reimburse for the cost of the Deckover, but not for the cost of the ruined wood which now needs complete replacement.

The lawyer suggested going to Small Claims Court and then Class Action if I get no satisfaction.

Write back if you'd like to know more. Power in numbers.

Behr - Paint Review from Silver Spring, Maryland

We spent many days scrubbing and preparing our deck for the Behr Deck Over Paint. Followed all directions on the can, spent two days painting our deck and letting it dry as directed. Our 5 year old German Shepherd walks out on the deck for the first time and her nails scratched the paint right off the deck! NOT HAPPY! I can imagine what our deck chairs are going to do when people sit in them for our first deck party tonight!

Just wait until next spring when it starts pealing off in chunks! Why do people listen to those adds and the twenty year olds at the box stores.

They probably have never even stepped foot in a paint department until they got hired a couple of months ago. Why the *** do people flock to them to buy paint from companies that flat out lie about their products to sell them?

Followed instruction exactly as described in the can and the deck was peeling in a matter of 4-5 months. We had to painstakingly remove all the paint which has taken weeks and now we are allowing the deck to dry out after power washing and hand scrapping. Incidentally the wood beneath the paint was moist which it should have been dry with paint covering it. Our deck has looked hideous for the entire summer and we still have to attempt to paint it again this fall. Do you know how difficult it is for a husband and wife to repeatedlyt strip and paint a deck in sunny 80degree weather together...I will say that we are still married, but not sure what will happen when we paint this fall!

My 800 sf deck is a mess. I followed Behr and Home Depot's instructions to the letter early last summer. We bought 12 gallons as recommended. The paint application was difficult as it was so thick. When finished it looked fantastic. Like others have said, the paint...

We applied Behr Deck Over in Aug 2013 and it is now Aug. 2015. I have a not-so-bad comment on our experience with Deck Over...we have not had peeling, BUT it stays so DIRTY and WILL NOT COME CLEAN no matter what I do. I stay stressed all the time over the appearance....
